46 Pet Adoptions, A New Dog Park, Hundreds
of Happy People and Pets.
Now That’s What We Call a Success!

 
We want to thank everyone who came out to our Fall 4 Fur Adopt-a-Thon on Oct 27th & 28th and especially those who braved Hurricane Sandy, defying the weather predictions and warnings to come and join us.  The event was a huge success in every way but especially the 46 pet adoptions (16 dogs, 21 cats, 8 small animals & 1 bird) and the continual attendance at the new dog park.  The ribbon cutting was exciting and immediately after the park was filled with happy, romping and playing pooches of all kinds, sizes and ages.  It was really great to see and gratifying to know how happy it’s going to make so many of our County’s pets and their owners. The Shelter staff was extremely busy showing adoptable pets throughout the entire event and even had 4 adoptions in the wee hours of the morning.  It was incredible to see all those happy faces, both two legged and four legged, going home.  The costume contests were a joy to watch and I can attest, very difficult to judge. Officer McGruff was there to lend a paw and so were 2 members of the Equine Patrol. Thanks to Lt. Pauline Shatswell the demonstrations were wonderful and even more fun to participate in.  My chocolate lab learned how to “Freestyle” and just may have found his new calling or not.  We are truly grateful to all those who came out and showed their stuff. The micro-chip/rabies clinic was a real hit, we even had people waiting in line at 5:45 a.m. for us to open. The groomers worked magic on several of the newly adopted dogs and the nail clipping clinic was much needed and appreciated.  Food was plentiful thanks to the Vietnam Veterans Battlefield Chapter 617 and Nathan’s Ice Cream, yummy.  All in all, it was a great 1st event and we wish we had enough room to thank everyone who volunteered, staffed and participated. We are anxious to start planning our next event, so any volunteers or suggestions?
