Seniors 4 Seniors Adoption Program

This free adoption program began in May, 2012 with the purpose of placing adoptable pets over 5 years old with pet lovers over 60 years old.  90% of seniors polled say they are less lonely and much happier since adopting an animal. Warrior Buddies Adoption Program

This program is designed to bring unconditional love and companionship in the form adoptable shelter pets to our wounded warriors in Prince William County. After reading about the Pets2Vets organization and mission, we decided that our proximity to Ft. Belvoir Military Hospital would be a perfect fit to establish a similar adoption program for our wounded Veterans outside the Beltway. Through a coalition with the Prince William Vietnam Veterans working with the military bases and medical facilities, we have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our local military heroes and our wonderful adoptable pets… read more

Poor Animals Welfare & Surgical Fund (P.A.W.S. Fund)

The Prince William Animal Shelter is a municipal shelter with no budget for funds to assist animals brought to them with complex wounds or injuries requiring extensive diagnostics or surgery. In the past, if a Veterinarian could not be found to perform the needed medical services pro bono, the injured pet would be turned over to a local rescue to take care of the medical problem and if one could not be found, the poor animal would be euthanized.  NO MORE!  read more

LUCAS Cares Spay/Neuter Fund

LUCAS has been in existence since 2006 and has been active in Prince William County assisting low income pet owners to spay &/or neuter their pets on a free or reduced fee basis. We work with several Vets/Clinics and thus far we have helped sterilize over 130 pets. Now we will continue to do so as a program under the Prince William Humane Society. LucasCares Spay/Neuter Fund presently pays the adoption and spay/neuter fees for both the Seniors4Seniors and Warrior Buddies Adoption Programs, without this assistance these beneficial programs would not be possible. We are committed to ending euthanasia through spay and neuter and you can help us accomplish this lofty goal… read more

PW Humane Society Dog Park Maintenance Fund

With Prince William County being one of the most prominent counties in the United States, it’s hard to believe we don’t have any public dog parks. The Prince William Animal Advisory Committee decided that was unacceptable so they began working on creating one in the Fall of 2011. As a result, a little thinking outside the box, inventiveness and determination came into play and now, the 1st Dog Park in Prince William County is located on the Shelter property and will open during the Summer of 2012… read more

The Prince William Animal Shelter Capital Improvement Fund

We can’t convey strongly enough and as anyone who has been there can attest, the Prince William Animal Shelter is in dire need of an extreme makeover. The facility was designed in 1975 to house the strays of a small community population of approximately 150,000. As the county has grown to over 400,000 residents and their pets, the Shelter has not. The number of animals taken in every year is over 6300 and more than any other No. VA jurisdiction and yet the Shelter has never been updated or upgraded to match the growth of our county… read more
