All About Us
The Prince William Humane Society (PWHS) was established in October 2012 with the express purpose of assisting Prince William County Animal Shelter (PWCAS) to realize its goals of increasing their save rate and greatly reducing euthanasia. Knowing how under-funded they are and unable to provide any kind of adoption incentives or programs, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the shelter to achieve these goals was warranted and desperately needed.
Consequently, the PWHS was organized to serve as the umbrella organization overseeing the fundraising, management, and implementation of various programs and funds dedicated to helping the PWCAS and leading the crusade for a new shelter that everyone can be proud of. The partnership works very well and a common bond has formed between the two organizations. PWHS has been assisting the PWCAS since 2013 through various subsidized adoption and spay/neuter programs, financial assistance for medical and emergency services, adoption and fundraising events, and creating public awareness. PWHS became a Community Partner with PWCAS in June 2016 and then opened an Offsite Adoption Center (Pet Adopt Shop) in Aug. 2017 that transfers healthy and adoptable shelter animals into our custody and care until we find their forever homes.
At the Pet Adopt Shop, our pets are cared for, socialized, provided enrichment time daily and worked with to assure they get the best chance at their new life and that our adopters are getting the best pet for their lifestyle. It is through our combined efforts that more lives are being saved every year and the public is made aware of the advantages of pet adoption.
We envision a county in which all citizens regard companion animals as lifelong, valued family members and embrace their responsibility for the welfare of animals
The Prince William Humane Society is devoted to promoting animal welfare, increasing homeless pet adoptions, and enhancing the quality of life for people and their pets.
